Online retail enterprises have dominated the ecommerce payments scene for several years, but a new group of Web-based merchants is emerging. BtoB magazine released data showing approximately one-third (31 percent) of business-to-business (B2B) marketers can be ranked as complete or strong embracers of e-commerce. One of the main methods used to boost their online profile is offering products through a portal or the company website.

"For manufacturers, their distribution channels are contracting because of sites like AmazonSupply.com or Google Shopping for Suppliers, and thus their control of pricing is going away," Robert Barr, the senior vice president for Acquity Group, a digital agency, told the source. "Among the plays they can make are going online with e-commerce to protect their relationships with customers."

Before jumping into the e-commerce world and starting to facilitate transactions via an online store, it's wise to seek out a service provider that can work with the enterprise to set up a secure platform and ensure a smooth experience for customers. IT Business Edge offers a few tips about B2B e-commerce, recommending that organisations aim to mimic the B2C experience in terms of intuitiveness and offering product images along with descriptions.
